Course Requirements
Eligibility Requirements:
Potential students must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
- By credential: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS-P, or
- By education: Completion of a coding training program that includes anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, reimbursement methodology, intermediate/advanced ICD diagnostic/procedural and CPT coding, or
- By experience: Minimum of two years of related coding experience directly applying codes, or
- By credential with experience: CCA plus one year of coding experience directly applying codes, or
- Other: Coding credential from other certifying organization plus one year coding experience directly applying codes
Tuition:
$1135, this includes the cost of one provided textbook.
Required Resources:
Extensive course-provided study materials are supplemented by carefully selected textbooks. The following textbook will be provided to each student as part of their tuition:
ICD-9-CM, Coding Handbook, with Answers, 2012 Revised Edition, Faye Brown in collaboration with the Central Office on ICD-9-CM of the American Hospital Association (AHA Press, Health Forum, Inc. Chicago)
In addition, each student in the class is required to purchase or have access to each of the following:
1. 2012 ICD-9, Code Book (any publisher)
2. CPT 2012, Standard Edition or Professional Edition, published by the American Medical Association
3. Current and recent issues of CPT Assistant, published by the American Medical Association
4. Current and recent issues of Coding Clinic, published by the American Hospital Association

Online system requirements:
For PC-based participants:
- Internet Explorer® 7.0 or newer, Mozilla® Firefox® 3.0 or newer or Google™ Chrome™ 5.0 or newer (JavaScript™ and Java™ enabled)
- Windows® 7, Vista, XP or 2003 Server
- Cable modem, DSL, or better Internet connection
- Minimum of Pentium® class 1GHz CPU with 512 MB of RAM (recommended) (2 GB of RAM for Windows® Vista)
For Mac®-based participants:
- Safari™ 3.0 or newer, Firefox® 3.0 or newer or Google™ Chrome™ 5.0 or newer (JavaScript™ and Java™ enabled)
- Mac OS® X 10.4.11 – Tiger® or newer
- Intel processor (512 MB of RAM or better recommended)
- Cable modem, DSL, or better Internet connection
Participants wishing to connect to audio using VoIP will need a fast Internet connection, a microphone and speakers. (A USB headset is recommended.)
