Massachusetts HIMA Joins Medical Coder Course Affiliate Program

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

MASSACHUSETTS – December 13, 2011 – The Massachusetts Health Information Management Association (MaHIMA) has partnered with Barry Libman Inc. to offer training for medical coders in ICD-10 readiness.

The partnership is based on Barry Libman Inc.’s affiliate program for distributing the course Anatomy & Physiology for Coders.

MaHIMA represents nearly 1500 health information management professionals working to support top-quality medical care in Massachusetts through effective management of personal health information. MaHIMA's extensive calendar of educational sessions keeps Health Information Management professionals informed of important issues and dynamic changes affecting their workplace and profession.

“MaHIMA members work to ensure quality health care through quality information in Massachusetts,” said MaHIMA president Mary Radley. “MaHIMA provides these members with education and training as well as state-wide and New England region networking opportunities to share information and best practices. We provide members with information about products and services that can help them with the many challenges and changes in healthcare today.  We are pleased to offer Barry Libman’s Anatomy & Physiology for Coders course for our members and their colleagues as another tool for helping coding staffs improve their current skills and prepare for the implementation of ICD-10,” stated Radley.

Barry Libman Inc.’s Anatomy & Physiology for Coders affiliate program offers all the necessary tools for State Associations to promote this course to their members. Affiliates receive commission automatically when members sign up. The program not only provides a secondary revenue stream, but can be used to supplement webinars, audio training programs, and on-premise seminars.

Anatomy & Physiology for Coders, intended to prepare medical coders for transition to ICD-10-CM and –PCS, is a 12-week course that presents a comprehensive and complete review of the major body systems. Students also learn about common laboratory tests, frequently prescribed drugs, and common diseases and disorders.

In addition to the textbook and supplemental CD of Donald Rizzo’s Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology, the course includes multi-media videos, lesson notes, interactive educational games, and full-color anatomical drawings to amplify course content. To help students master the material, multiple quizzes and comprehensive weekly assessments are given.

Students can access the course online 24/7. Anatomy & Physiology for Coders has been given approval for 24 continuing education units (CEUs) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and 12 continuing education units (CEUs) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
