Course grounded in learning the major body systems enables smooth ICD-10 transition
Monday, November 26th, 2012

BEDFORD MASSACHUSETTS – November 26, 2012 – Lowell General Hospital (LGH), named to U.S. News & World Report’s 2011-2012 Best Hospitals, has begun training coders with Barry Libman Inc.’s preparation course for the anatomy-intensive requirements of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, titled Anatomy & Physiology for Coders.

The online courses will allow Lowell General Hospital’s coders to be grounded in the major body systems while making a smooth ICD-10 transition.

“As a community hospital, Lowell General Hospital works to efficiently identify and address the existing and future health needs in our community,” said Annette Barnaby, Lowell General Hospital Director, HIM and Privacy Officer. “While they work in the background, our coders play an integral role in that mission. Accordingly, we strive to keep them well trained, and Anatomy & Physiology for Coders is an excellent means to achieve this. We appreciate the course’s attention to detail and its professional teaching style.”

Lowell General Hospital has received several awards and recognitions, including: Modern Healthcare's Best Places to Work in Healthcare for 2012 and 2011; American Heart Association’s 2011 Gold Plus award for treatment of heart failure; U.S. News & World Report’s2011-2012 Best Hospitals Ranking; Cleverley  + Associates’ Top Community Value Provider (6 consecutive years); named one of 2011’s and 2012’s Most Wired Hospitals in the Nation, and Boston Business Journal’s Best Places to Work for 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Barry Libman Inc.’s Anatomy & Physiology for Coders is thorough yet accelerated. In 12 weeks, students receive a comprehensive and complete review of the major body systems. Common diseases and disorders are covered, as well as laboratory tests and prescription drugs. Enhancing the course are videos, interactive educational games, and full-color anatomical drawings.

While ICD-10 has not yet officially begun, students benefit from the course immediately: greater knowledge of anatomy and physiology translates into increased proficiency in ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding.

Anatomy & Physiology for Coders is approved by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) for 6 continuing education units (CEUs), and by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) for 24 continuing education units.
